My name is Elizabeth Bennett, and I am a senior at Sunapee Middle High School. At Sunapee, every senior is required to do a senior project with a minimum 40 hour requirement. It encourages us to learn something new, give back to the community, and manage our time as we finish up our last year of school before we enter the real world. For my senior project, I wanted to do something that the whole community could get involved in, and that could be used as a way to give back to the less fortunate. I wanted a way that students could come together to show the community members their talents and accomplishments as well. Luckily, I thought of a way to do just that.
On Saturday, February 16th, I am having a semi-formal community banquet for the people of the Sunapee and Kearsarge regions to raise money for the New London Habitat for Humanity. This local chapter helps build cheap affordable houses for local residents in need, and are completely donation based. All proceeds raised from the event will go straight to this organization. There will be student volunteers to serve small foods during the event, and perform with powerful speaking pieces and musical talents, and a silent auction for students to show off their artwork! It will be held in the cafeteria and commons area of Sunapee Middle High School.
I am just trying to give back to the community that helped me grow into the young adult that I am today. Your consideration is all I ask for, as I finish planning what started as a school requirement, and will end as part of the reason why a local family can get a new home.
